Corey Brinkley

CrossFit Level 2 (CF-L2) Trainer

USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach

Growing up in a small town in Tennessee, I stayed very active and played a variety of sports. During high school, I knew I wasn’t ready for college and wanted something different. I joined the Navy and served five and a half years before deciding to call San Diego my permanent home. After getting out, I enrolled at Grossmont Community College but was unsure of what I really wanted to study. I was also stuck in the typical mundane gym routine: weight training and the occasional treadmill cardio paired with a terrible diet. One day while sitting on the couch, a replay of the 2011 CrossFit Games beach event came on TV. I had never heard of CrossFit before and was blown away by what I was watching. I was a little intimidated and thought I wasn’t ready, but I found a gym and signed up. I was hooked.

Since then, I received my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer in 2013 while working as a jump rope trainer for RX Smart Gear and my USA Weightlifting – Sport Performance Coach Certification in 2015. I’m currently entering my last semester at San Diego State University where I will receive my bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.  Next year, I plan on attending the Level 2 Trainer course. In 2014 I began working as a trainer at CrossFit Santee, and I am still there today. I have developed a passion for helping people achieve their goals, whatever those may be — snatching 200 pounds or jumping on a box for the first time. While I have grown immensely as a coach, I am still humbled by how much I have to learn, and I am eager to always continue doing so.

Fitness and athletics have always been a passion of mine. I grew up playing mostly baseball and did some wrestling and football in high school. My competitive spirit is only matched by my enthusiasm for helping others realize their goals. I’ve run multiple marathons, competed in powerlifting competitions and have trained collegiate level athletes as well as physique competitors. I look forward to helping you reach your goals, no matter how big or small. My approach to training reflects my positive life outlook and my joy for helping others complete what they never thought possible.

Taylor Larabee

CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer

Taylor’s Crossfit journey began 3 years ago when a friend begged her to try a free Saturday WOD. She fell in love with Crossfit the moment after that first excruciating WOD and never looked back.

Growing up with 3 brothers, Taylor developed a love for sports and competition at an early age. Soccer, running, basketball, tennis (played at the collegiate level), swimming, biking, you name it she played it. Her biggest accomplishment, however, was crossing the finish line at the Western Australia Ironman. The 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, & 26.2-mile run was one of the hardest things she has had to overcome physically and mentally. She also trains for various sprint triathlons, trail-running races, and plays on a women’s soccer team.

Crossfit has taken her to the next level of fitness but it has also offered her friendships, encouragement, and camaraderie. It brings people together. Since her introduction to Crossfit, she has seen herself and many other lives change in the process, and she looks forward to being a part of many more life-changing experiences. She can’t wait to help people get fit, meet their goals, and have fun!

Alli Nelson

CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer

Hi everyone! I’m Alli Nelson and I’m thrilled to be coaching at CrossFit Dark Side. It’s been awesome to watch this process grow from an idea to a building with walls, equipment, and amazing members.

I started CrossFit in August of 2013 and have enjoyed it along with my husband and daughters. The further I pushed myself, the more intrigued I became by the coaching process – that probably stemmed from the fact that I’m a teacher and always wanting to be a part of the learning process and not just the end result. I became a Level-1 certified CrossFit trainer in 2014.

Outside of that training, I continue to compete in individual, partner and team CrossFit competitions. It’s been a fantastic way to stay fit, challenge myself and meet friends. Crossfit is all about building bonds among members in our community and encouraging each other to surpass our expectations for ourselves. I appreciate having a CrossFit family to cheer me on as much as I enjoy pushing others to achieve their best.

Suzy Weiss

CrossFit Level 2 (CF-L2) Trainer

CrossFit Kids

Suzy’s favorite thing about CrossFit is how it empowers people to achieve things they didn’t think were physically possible, and in turn how that transcends to a mental strength to get through life’s challenges. “CrossFit helps us prepare for life. When it gets hard, CrossFitters know to rest and always to pick up that bar again even when you don’t think you can”. Suzy loves being a part of making people’s lives better.
